Deep Sensations Freediving: Community Update – R U OK? Day Social Dive Recap

Our R U OK Day social dive brought together the vibrant freediving community from Wollongong, Shellharbour, and Sydney for an unforgettable day of underwater adventure, mindfulness, and connection. With over 20 enthusiastic divers of all ages joining us from across Wollongong, Shellharbour, and Sydney, the event perfectly captured the essence of community spirit and support.

Breathwork Session with Ryan – Setting the Tone for the Day

We kicked off our day with an incredible breathwork session led by Ryan, whose expertise helped everyone feel calm, focused, and ready for the dive. A big thank you to Ryan for sharing his knowledge and creating a mindful space.

Diving Highlights – Bushrangers Bay Comes to Life

Our dive at Bushrangers Bay, a popular freediving spot near Shellharbour, provided exceptional conditions with a clear 12-meter visibility that made the underwater world come alive. The bay was bustling with marine life, and our divers were thrilled to experience the magic it had to offer.

We had the privilege of encountering two grey nurse sharks cruising gracefully through the clear waters. We also met a friendly blue grouper, curious and playful, swimming alongside us.

Not to be outdone, a crested horn shark made an appearance, blending perfectly with the rocky seabed, reminding us of the diverse marine life that makes Bushrangers Bay such a special place to dive.

And the surprises weren’t limited to the water! On shore, we spotted a red-bellied black snake and saw whales spouting in the distance – a reminder of the incredible natural beauty that surrounds us in the Illawarra region.

Building Connections Over Coffee

After our dive, we gathered at a local café for coffee and casual chats. It was a wonderful opportunity for divers from Wollongong, Shellharbour, and surrounding areas to share their experiences, find new dive buddies, and strengthen our freediving community. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and warmth, underscoring the importance of coming together to support each other, both in and out of the water.
