Once you’ve nailed your fundamentals and built a solid base in Wave 2, Wave 3 is the next big step in your freediving journey. It’s designed for serious divers looking to progress into deeper water, refine technique, and build the mental resilience to stay relaxed and in control - no matter the conditions.
Whether you’re training for competition, exploring personal limits, or preparing for professional roles like safety diver or instructor, Wave 3 gives you the tools, structure, and support to get there.
Who Can Join Wave 3?
To enrol in the Molchanovs Wave 3 Freediving Course, you’ll need:
✅ A Wave 2 certification (or equivalent, with crossover evaluation)
✅ A valid First Aid and CPR certificate (completed within the last 2 years)
If you’ve completed a Lap 2 or Wave 2 with another agency, you can still join after a short evaluation—we’ll help you transition smoothly into the Molchanovs system.
What You’ll Learn
Wave 3 is about refining deep equalisation, improving oxygen efficiency, and developing confidence in the 30–40m depth range. You’ll go deeper into the science of freediving, barotrauma prevention, training methodology, and mental techniques for performance under pressure.
This is where things get technical—but also incredibly rewarding.
Certification Requirements: What You Need to Pass
Pool Requirements
These are completed in a confined water (pool) environment:
Static Apnea (STA): 3 minutes 30 seconds
Dynamic Apnea with Bifins (DYNB): 75 metres
Dynamic No Fins (DNF): 50 metres
You’ll focus on efficiency, streamlining, and relaxation techniques to sustain long breath-holds and powerful swims.
Open Water Requirements
These are completed in the ocean (or deep freshwater environment):
Constant Weight with Bifins (CWTB): 34–40 metres
Free Immersion (FIM): 34–40 metres
Constant Weight No Fins (CNF): 25 metres
CWTB Buddying: Safety dive to 20 metres for a buddy
Rescue from 20 metres: Simulated blackout rescue from depth
Surface Tow: 20-metre surface tow of an incapacitated diver
Incapacitated Diver Retrieval: Retrieval of a diver from 30 metres
Each session is designed to build progressive comfort at depth, with a strong focus on technique, equalisation, and safety.
What Makes Wave 3 Different?
Wave 3 is where freedivers begin to really own their craft. You’ll refine your mouthfill equalisation, develop precision finning, and learn how to train smart with concepts like periodisation and energy management.
It’s not about just hitting the numbers—it’s about doing it efficiently, safely, and with repeatability.
What If You Don’t Pass Right Away?
No worries. At Deep Sensations Freediving, you’ll have 12 months to complete any outstanding skills. Whether it's depth, pool distances, or safety procedures, you can return for a coaching session without needing to redo the entire course. We’re here for your long-term growth.
