So, you’ve completed your Beginner Freediver course, and now the thought of advancing to the Wave 2 is on your mind. The idea of diving deeper, holding your breath longer, and being more comfortable underwater excited you—but also fill you with a bit of uncertainty.
Are you really ready for this next step?
What if you’re not?
Don’t worry, these are completely normal thoughts, and we’re here to guide you through what to expect in your Wave 2 Advanced Freediver course at Deep Sensations Freediving.
Understanding Wave 2: What It’s All About
The Wave 2 Advanced Freediver course is designed to take your freediving skills to the next level. While Wave 1 introduced you to the basics—such as breath-holding techniques, safety, and your first steps into the underwater world—Wave 2 focuses on refining those skills, increasing your comfort and performance at greater depths, and introducing new deep equalisation and freediving techniques.
In Wave 2, you’ll be aiming to reach depths of 20-30 meters, mastering advanced equalisation techniques, learning more about mindfulness, safety and improving your overall breath-hold time.
The course also delves deeper into the physiological and psychological aspects of freediving, giving you a broader understanding of how your body responds to the challenges of depth and time.
Am I Ready for Wave 2?
This is one of the most common questions we get, and it’s one worth asking. To embark on your Wave 2 journey, you should feel comfortable with the skills you acquired in Wave 1. But comfort doesn’t mean perfection—Wave 2 is about growth, and that often involves stepping outside of your comfort zone.
If you can answer “yes” to the following, you’re likely ready:
Confidence at Depth: You should feel confident diving to depths of 10-20 meters without rushing or feeling overly stressed.
Solid Breath-Hold: You should be able to hold your breath for at least 1:30 minutes comfortably.
Basic Equalisation: You should have a good grasp of basic equalisation techniques, such as the Valsalva or Frenzel, and be ready to learn advanced methods.
If you’re unsure about any of these, remember that our instructors at Deep Sensations Freediving are here to help. We’ll work with you to assess your current abilities and build on them, ensuring that you’re ready to take on Wave 2 at your own pace.

Addressing Your Concerns
It's completely natural to feel a bit nervous about advancing to the next level. Many freedivers have concerns about whether they’re ready to dive deeper or hold their breath longer, and that’s where our expertise comes in.
Here are some common concerns and how we address them:
1. “What if I can’t reach the required depth?”
The depth requirements in Wave 2 are goals, not strict benchmarks. We understand that every diver progresses at their own pace, and we’ll never push you to go beyond your comfort level. The course is designed to gradually increase your depth through guided practice and personalised coaching.
The main takeaways from the course are the new skills and tools to be comfortable and competent at depth. Which will happen, regardless of the depths you reach.
2. “I’m worried about equalising at greater depths.”
Equalisation is one of the trickiest parts of freediving, and it can become more challenging as you go deeper. In Wave 2, we’ll introduce advanced equalisation techniques, such as the Deep Frenzel method, reverse packing, which can help you overcome these challenges.
Our instructors are patient and experienced, ensuring that you learn these techniques in a way that feels manageable.
3. “What if I’m not physically or mentally ready?”
Freediving is as much a mental sport as it is physical. We’ll work on relaxation and mindfulness techniques to help you prepare mentally for deeper dives. Physically, we’ll guide you through specific training exercises that can help improve your strength, flexibility, and breath-hold capacity. Remember, freediving is about finding the balance between body and mind—our course will help you develop both aspects.
4. “I’m not sure I’ll be able to complete the course in a short timeframe.”
One of the great things about the Wave 2 course at Deep Sensations Freediving is that you have 12 months to complete all the requirements. This flexible timeline allows you to learn and practice at your own pace, without feeling rushed. Whether you need more time to master a technique or to build your confidence, we’ll be there to support you every step of the way.
