Spearfishing on the Central Coast offers some of the most underrated conditions in NSW, with clean water, healthy reef systems, and an abundance of legal species. At Deep Sensations Freediving, we don’t just teach spearfishing, we live and breathe it.
Our Central Coast Spearfishing Course is designed for ocean lovers who want to learn the right way — with proper safety systems, ethical hunting practices, and the confidence to bring home fresh, sustainable seafood.
 
Led by qualified freediving instructors and experienced Central Coast spearos, you’ll learn real-world skills in beautiful locations like Terrigal Haven, Avoca, Norah Head, and surrounding reef systems. From mastering breath-hold and equalisation to improving your bottom time and reading fish behaviour, you’ll walk away calmer, safer, and more capable in the water.
 
Whether you’re brand new or looking to refine your technique, this course will help you build genuine confidence and competence in the ocean.
 
What You’ll Learn
Practical In-Water Sessions
• Safe diving and buddy procedures
• Breath-hold, equalisation, and relaxation techniques
• Efficient duck dives and extending your bottom time
• Stealth, hunting, and fish-approach tactics
• Responsible shot placement and ethical dispatch
• Reading Central Coast reef systems, identifying local species, and understanding
NSW regulations
 
Theory & Land-Based Training
• Speargun setup and equipment handling (using Rob Allen guns)
• NSW legal limits and sustainable harvesting guidelines
• Species ID, scaling, gutting, and filleting
• Gear care, maintenance, and cleaning
• Tips for storing and preparing your catch

Prerequisites
• Must be able to swim 200 m unassisted
• Prior snorkelling or freediving experience recommended
• A valid NSW Recreational Fishing Licence is required (not included)
