Our Seal Rocks Retreat: A Journey Beneath the Waves
From the moment we arrived at Seal Rocks, the excitement was palpable. Our group was a mix of seasoned divers and eager beginners, all united by a shared passion for the ocean. Within minutes of swimming out, we were greeted by a breathtaking array of marine life. Eagle rays gracefully glided through the water, and turtles casually swam by, creating a serene and magical atmosphere.
One of the highlights of our dives was encountering the gentle grey nurse sharks. These magnificent creatures, often misunderstood, peacefully coexisted with us, allowing for incredible photo opportunities and unforgettable memories. We also spotted wobbegongs and Port Jackson sharks resting on the sandy bottom, their unique patterns and shapes adding to the underwater spectacle.
The real thrill came when we spotted dolphins playing in the distance. A few lucky participants even had the chance to see them up close in the water, an experience that left everyone in awe. And to top it all off, a majestic bronze whaler shark made a brief appearance, showcasing the incredible diversity of marine life that Seal Rocks has to offer.
Above and Below: Activities and Adventures
Our retreat was not just about the underwater wonders; we also had a fantastic time on land. Each evening, we gathered around a bonfire, sharing stories and laughter under the starlit sky. One of the most memorable nights was hosted by Dani from Protect What You Love, who led us in a series of engaging and fun games that brought everyone closer together.
Food is always a highlight of any retreat, and our Seal Rocks adventure was no exception. We enjoyed a delicious family barbecue, with everyone coming together to share a meal and bond over our love for the ocean. The sense of community and camaraderie was palpable, making the experience even more special.
Our retreat was also an opportunity to learn and grow. Curtis Tredway, our underwater photographer and freediving instructor, led an underwater editing workshop. Participants gained valuable skills in capturing and editing stunning underwater footage, enhancing their ability to document their underwater adventures.
In addition to the workshops, we enjoyed yoga sessions focused on breath control and relaxation, essential skills for both freedivers and snorkellers. The combination of yoga and diving created a holistic experience that left everyone feeling rejuvenated and inspired.
